Frontline Voices

Sharing reflections for practice

Sexual violence against older women is often hidden — and the service providers who meet these women every day see both the care that’s offered and the gaps that leave them unsupported.

Through conversations with workers on the frontline, Hear Our Voices highlights how services are seldom designed with older women in mind; how stigma, shame, health issues and dependence on others make disclosure harder, and how narrow ideas about what “real” sexual assault looks like can leave older women unseen.

Their insights show what must change: better recognition of sexual violence in later life, stronger trauma-informed and culturally safe practice, and services flexible enough to meet older women where they are so they can be believed, supported, and safe.
